Lessons from nature

Sometimes while we are admiring breathtaking landscapes like in Rio de Janeiro (Formiga's hometown) we are not aware of the chemical complexity that keep us alive. We have a lot to learn from nature and the inspiration to our chemistry comes from the amazing molecular machines that evolved through time to generate an energy cycle based on water, oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Research

Our projects

We are currently working with complexes able to split water into dioxygen and dihydrogen both chemically and electrochemically. Our main focus is in understanding the reaction mechanisms and we hope that scientists can use this knowledge to develop a global sustainable energy supply.
